![]() ![]() I’m sure some days we forgot to feed him entirely. On days we took home dinner from McDonald’s we treated him to french fries. ![]() ![]() The food we fed him didn’t help he had meals of rice some days, baby food other days, sometimes kibble. The poor little dog was so confused by our curious house training philosophy that he relieved himself all over the apartment. We knew nothing about dogs except they needed to eat and be walked once a day. Unfortunately, my parents trusted my brother and I to take care of this dog without their intervention. Inside was a nest of newspaper shreds, and tucked right in the middle was that little dog we loved from the pet store. My brother and I jogged down the stairs of our apartment building and found a box in the backseat of my dad’s car. “Can you and your brother go get something in the car?” This was not an uncommon request my parents asked us to retrieve things for them all the time. A few weeks later, I woke up and found my parents in the kitchen making coffee. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Tacitus' descriptions of the Germanic character are at times favorable in contrast to the opinions of the Romans of his day. The Germania begins with a description of the lands, laws, and customs of the Germanic people it then segues into descriptions of individual tribes, beginning with those dwelling closest to Roman lands and ending on the uttermost shores of the Baltic, among the amber-gathering Aesti, the primitive and savage Fenni, and the unknown tribes beyond them. Tacitus himself had already written a similar essay on the lands and tribes of Britannia in his Agricola. Germania fits squarely within the tradition established by authors from Herodotus to Julius Caesar. The Germania (Latin: De Origine et situ Germanorum, literally The Origin and Situation of the Germans), written by Gaius Cornelius Tacitus around 98, is an ethnographic work on the Germanic tribes outside the Roman Empire. LibriVox recording of Tacitus' Germania, translated by Alfred John Church and William Jackson Brodribb read by LibriVox volunteers, proofed, coordinated, and produced by Karen Merline. ![]() ![]() ![]()

When playing any character, you have to find empathy no matter how unlikeable they are. Stefani is the villain of this story but also a victim in some ways. I worked on the accent and sent it to Janicza. When I got this script, someone said, “You kind of played that in American Honey.” I was like, “This is a completely different person! You’re putting all these women in the same category.” So, for Stefani, it was about thinking about the nuances of where she grew up, what she grew up around and how she speaks. I’ve lived an interesting life, I’ve met a lot of people and, the thing is, I’ve met people like Stefani. I’ve had pole dancing lessons and I’ve been in that world. I’ve played dancers who work in strip clubs a few times. How did you prepare to play such an outrageous character? My only question to Janicza was, “Can I really go for it?” She was like, “Absolutely!” We wanted to make her as wild, offensive and loud as we could. ![]() Janicza wanted me for the role, which was amazing. I was completely obsessed with the writing. Riley Keough: Yeah, someone sent it to me! Then, I was told that they were making it into a film and I got sent the script. ![]() ![]() ![]() There he meets a young man with a silver suitcase and offers to look after it while the young man goes to the washroom. So this year as a part of the reading challenge “read a book that you started last year but did not complete” I thought of picking it up again. I started reading this book last year in 2018 but for some reason could not go through with it. ‘The Hundred Year Old Man Who Climbed Out The Window And Disappeared’ is the debut novel of Jonas Jonasson, a Swedish journalist, and writer. ![]() ![]() This is the story of the relationship between Jenna and Mr Anderson, told exclusively from her point of view. Every page simmers with suspense, and the knowledge that something big is coming, something bad bubbling under the surface, but we’re at Jenna’s mercy as she is the one telling the story, her train of thought maddeningly wandering away from the topic again and again. ![]() ![]() This is a brilliant, inventive, gripping young adult book that will delight teens while perhaps terrifying their parents. Against the rules, and against the odds, he becomes her ally, and so much more. Mr Anderson is a Chemistry teacher and athletics coach, but he’s more than that to Jenna. But then she meets someone, someone special who is kind to her, pays attention to her, looks out for her. Being the new kid at school adds to an already iffy situation (parents who ignore her angst in favour of their own a brother who enlisted to get away from them) and she’s not really looking forward to term starting. Jenna is 16 years old, and fresh out of a psychiatric hospital when her parents enrol her at a new high school in the wilds of Wisconsin. ![]() Summary: A dark teen book about a forbidden relationship, this is a great, gripping read ![]() ![]() ![]() Standing was a close friend and assistant to Maria Montessori for over thirty years.Įdwin Mortimer Standing (1887-1967) was a close friend and assistant to pioneering Italian educator Maria Montessori for over thirty years. ![]() Part biography and part exposition of her ideas, this engaging book reveals through her letters and personal diaries Maria Montessori’s humility and delight in the success of her educational experiments and is an ideal introduction to the principles and practices of the greatest educational pioneer of the 20th century.Į.M.
